“I like to use a combination of techniques when making jewellery; from hand forming metal and creating pieces from scratch to using the lost wax casting method - each piece requires a different approach. Lost wax carving is one of the oldest forms of metal forming techniques, dating back over 6,000 years. If I’m using this method, I hand carve a design from a solid block of wax, which is then used to make a mould for which molten metal is poured into. It’s a lengthy process, and sometimes the results are unexpected! I just love that this method is still going strong and largely unchanged after thousands of years...”
